Traditional Braces – Dental Aligner
Dental braces have evolved into very reliable and effective orthodontic appliances for correcting even the most problematic forms of tooth misalignment. At Bliss Family and Pediatric Dentistry, we offer dental braces to correct various problems regarding poor alignment or angulation of the teeth.
What Are Traditional Braces?
Dental braces, also known orthodontic brackets, are appliances that are made from stainless steel and are attached to the front surface of your teeth. In the center of each bracket, there is a slot through which an archwire goes around and along each row of the upper and lower teeth. The brackets are connected to the archwire with ligatures to transfer forces from the wire to the individual teeth.
How Do Traditional Braces Correct Orthodontic Problems?
The force generated by the archwire is adjusted carefully to move the teeth at a gradual pace. As the teeth move in compliance, the force diminishes. The tension in the archwire has to be re-adjusted, or the wire needs to be replaced to cause further movement. Thus, to give you a perfect set of teeth, you will need to visit us every month for about two years.
Depending on the severity of your case, we may have to remove one or more of your teeth at the start to make space for proper alignment. At the end of the treatment, we will give you removable or fixed retainers to wear for about six months so that the correction becomes permanent.
